The Core Concept
When you type, you create a unique signature. The rhythm of your keystrokes, the pauses when you think, the mistakes you make and correct — these patterns are distinctly human.
Drop the Slop captures this signature as you write, creating a tamper-evident record that readers can inspect. We don't block or gatekeep — we show transparent evidence and let readers decide.
The Writing Process
Write
Type in our Markdown editor. Every keystroke and timing interval is recorded in real-time.
Analyze
Our server replays your edits to verify the final text matches the trace. Typing patterns are analyzed for human characteristics.

Typing Rhythm Analysis
We analyze multiple dimensions of typing behavior to assess human characteristics:
Speed & Variance
We measure typing speed (WPM) and variance in inter-key intervals. Humans show natural variation; bots are unnaturally consistent. A coefficient of variation below 15% is flagged as suspicious.
Pauses & Bursts
Real writers pause to think and type in bursts. We track thinking pauses (>2 seconds) and rapid typing sequences (<150ms between keys). The ratio reveals natural writing patterns.
Edits & Revisions
Humans make mistakes and go back to fix them. We track deletions, corrections, and cursor jumps. Zero backspaces over 500+ characters is highly unusual for human typing.
Anomaly Detection
We flag suspicious patterns: robotic timing consistency, impossibly fast sustained typing (>200 WPM), or unusual IKI distributions. Flags are shown to readers — we inform, not block.
Verification Methods
Typed — Rhythm Analysis
ActiveServer-side replay verification ensures the final text matches the recorded editing trace. Combined with typing rhythm analysis, this provides strong evidence of continuous human writing vs. copy-paste.
Live — Liveness Prompts
OptionalRandom challenges ("Type this word: elephant") interrupt automation scripts and provide stronger proof of human presence. Enable this for documents where you want extra verification.
Audio — Keystroke Sounds
AvailableRecord ambient audio during writing. Keystroke sounds are correlated with the timing trace to verify physical typing. Audio is deleted immediately after verification.
What We Don't Claim
- •Not anti-AI: Someone can manually type AI-generated text. We verify how text was entered, not where ideas came from.
- •Not foolproof: A fully compromised client could forge traces. Our security assumes the browser isn't fully under attacker control.
- •Not proof of authorship: We verify the typing process, not intellectual ownership of ideas.
